What does a CA(SA) training contract and a 12 000 km cycling tour have in common? ― Leaders never quit:

Johannesburg, Monday 19 January 2015 – The South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) are a proud sponsor of South African actor and adventurer, Ivan Zimmermann who embarked on a cross continent mountain bike journey from Cairo on the 9th January 2015.

If all goes according to plan, Ivan will arrive in Cape Town on 9th May 2015 at the finish of the Tour d’Afrique 2015.

SAICA is sponsoring Ivan because a journey by bike from Cairo to Cape Town is as rigorous physically as becoming a CA(SA) is mentally rigorous. SAICA is running a campaign in 2015 for it’s CA(SA) trainees called “Leaders never quit.”

SAICA’s Senior Executive: Marketing, Willi Coates said, “To enter a CA(SA) training contract as a prospective CA(SA) is rigorous and not for the faint-hearted. It takes long hours, mental anguish and even tears to get through. To ride on a mountain bike from Cairo to Cape Town will take blisters, sweat and tears. Some will even say it is madness. What do these diverse activities have in common you may ask? – Commitment and dedication.”

“SAICA decided to get involved Ivan’s venture because we want our CA(SA) trainees to share their commitment and dedication with Ivan by motivating him to succeed. In turn he has agreed to share his commitment and dedication to finish and thus motivate our trainees to succeed using our social media platforms,” commented Coates.

For Ivan it will be a sheer test of mind, body, and a bicycle that stretches through ten countries. As the sole South African in the group, he will be riding the Tour d’Afrique, an adventure cycle tour arranged by a Canadian organisation called Tour d’Afrique Ltd.

This 12 000 km mountain bike adventure is also a platform for Ivan to raise 12 000 tins of foods for Can-a-Kilo. The canned food will be distributed by the Hanna Charity and Empowerment Foundation in South Africa. Collection points for the tins can be found at www.ivanzimmermann.com.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, a dream that has become reality. A dream that will test my limit and will show the world that leaders never quit. I will need all the support possible to finish. I know it is going to be tough, but I am determined not to give up at any point. Leaders never quit – despite how difficult the circumstances are. On days that I question what I got myself into, those are the days that a true leader is born. Leaders never quit,” said Ivan

As Ivan travels through Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia and South Africa he will share photos and videos regularly with SAICA’s CA(SA) trainees. Be sure to follow him on the following platforms:
