SAICA wishes “good luck” to the 4 400 learners taking part in today’s Accounting Olympiad

Johannesburg, Tuesday 1 August 2017 – After weeks of preparation and hard work, it is all systems go as South Africa’s top grade 11 and 12 learners prepare to take part in today’s annual SAICA Accounting Olympiad.

The annual SAICA Accounting Olympiad is one of the most exciting events in South Africa’s high school calendar. Promoting a healthy competitive environment amongst grade 11 and 12 learners, the Olympiad serves as a good practice session for learners to test their knowledge and skills of accounting ahead of the preliminary/final exams. It also gives participants a distinct advantage as it gives them a chance to improve their accounting skills, marks and potential preparedness for the challenges for doing accounting at tertiary level presents.

Gugu Makhanya, Senior Executive for Transformation and Growth at SAICA, wishes the 4 400 learners taking part in the Olympiad on Wednesday (2 August) good luck on behalf of the profession: ‘South Africa – and the chartered accountancy profession – is in dire need of talented learners like you. Good luck for Wednesday – do your best!’ #Accountingrocks

The winner of the event will be announced in September 2017. Prizes include a laptop for the learner who obtains the highest mark nationally as well as R2 000 in cash for the top learner from each province. The winning school educators will also win a cash prize. Those that aspire to be chartered accountants provided they meet all the criteria will stand a chance of being awarded a bursary to study further.
