This is a question parents often ask themselves when they agree to let their children take part in activities outside their child’s already hectic school curriculum. For the 296 Gauteng matric learners who took part in the province’s annual development camp—a partnership between the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) and the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE)—the answer is a resounding ‘yes’. This is proven by the fact that these leaners achieved a combined 219 distinctions for mathematics and physical science in their final matric exams.
