Implementing IT Governance using a Balance Scorecard

As an organisation starts to roll out IT Governance the sustainability of service delivery is guaranteed. The roll out of IT Governance needs to be measured. To start analysing and seeing the benefits, an organisation can use a Balance Scorecard.
Managing and aligning IT is an important mechanism. Therefore a balance scorecard concept can be applied to the IT function and its processes. The Balance Scorecard approach on the organisation’s level is that the evaluation form should not be restricted to a financial evaluation, but should be supplemented with measures concerning customer satisfaction, internal processes, learning and growth.
As many organisations have a Balance Scorecard, IT needs its own scorecard which clearly defines goals. The IT Balance Scorecard should show the value that IT adds to the enterprise. The Balance Scorecard of both the organisation and IT must be aligned.
