Non-compliance with CPD for the 2014 year (11 June 2015)

Based on information generated by the SAICA CPD system on 8 June 2015, our records indicate that you have, as yet, not indicated that you have met or attained the minimum requirements of the SAICA CPD Policy for the CPD year ending 31 December 2014 which requires that you needed to have undertaken relevant CPD activities for the 2014 year in review and have recorded these CPD activities or indicated self-compliance by the 31 December 2014 and an additional extension to 30 April 2015.

Please note: If you have sent your relevant documentation or have indicated that you are compliant for the 2014 year between 8 June 2015 and the date of receipt of this communication, we thank you for this.

In terms of the SAICA CPD Policy and SAICA By-laws, non-compliance with the SAICA CPD Policy will result in sanctions being imposed on members who are not compliant within the required timeframes.

A final date to indicate compliance for the respective CPD cycle is 30 June 2015.

This email serves to inform you that you may have not complied with one or more of the respective requirements for the stated year. We encourage you to review the respective 2014 year to identify non-compliance and take corrective measures to update your CPD compliance status based on the avenues provided below.

As per the SAICA By-laws, members who have not indicated their compliance status by the end of April 2015 will have had a final opportunity to do so by the end of June 2015. Those members who have still not indicated their compliance by this date could have sanctions imposed against them.

Kindly refer below for the possible sanction determined by the SAICA Board.

How can I indicate compliance?
SAICA offers a variety of ways for members to easily indicate their compliance status for a specific period:

  1. You can log your CPD hours on the CPD system accessible via the SAICA website; or
  2. You can select the self-compliance option on the CPD system with a click of a button for a specific year, accessible via the SAICA website. (If you select this option you must have submitted a declaration for each of the three years in this cycle.)
  3. A personalized PDF document attached to an email is sent to you and all that is required is for you to select the relevant options on the form, click submit and this will be emailed back to SAICA. Two forms are available, one to indicate compliance for a specific year and the other for a three year rolling cycle. Please ensure you take note of which form you are completing.

The above methods of indicating compliance will result in your records being automatically updated on the CPD system. Please note that the update for Options 2 and Option 3 above still requires you to maintain your own records as evidence of the relevant CPD activities you have undertaken as you may be requested to verify your compliance as part of our monitoring process.
Sanctions determined by the SAICA Board
The SAICA Board has agreed to impose a late submission penalty against members who have not indicated their compliance status within a specific year and by the June final deadline. Should you not have indicated your compliance status by taking advantage of any of the above options by the final deadline of 30 June 2015, a fine of R500 (Vat exc.) will be imposed for late submission and you will be invoiced accordingly.
This fee is to cover the additional administration costs being incurred by SAICA for following up on members who continue to ignore our numerous requests for confirmation / recording of their CPD status for a particular year or cycle.
However should you indicate your compliance status prior to the above deadline then the late submission penalty will be waived.

We encourage you to as a matter of urgent priority make use of the many options available to indicate your compliance before the final deadline end of June 2015.

Compliance with all aspects of the CPD policy is required for each year and the overall minimum requirements for a  three year rolling cycle also needs to be met. As a reminder you are required to obtain the following CPD requirements with reference to the SAICA CPD policy:

  • A minimum of 120 relevant CPD hours in a three year rolling cycle; of which
  • A minimum of 60 relevant CPD hours are to be verifiable; and
  • A minimum of 20 relevant CPD hours (verifiable/non-verifiable) in each year

You are reminded that in addition to undertaking relevant CPD activities you are also required to record this for measurement purposes.

Please also contact SAICA for any assistance or guidance with regards to your CPD compliance status telephonically on +27 11 621 6600 or email cpd@saica.co.za.

Your prompt attention to this request will be highly appreciated.

Compliance information

Acknowledging some of the challenges members may have in indicating their CPD compliance for a specific year or three year rolling cycle, SAICA has created new means for you to indicate your CPD compliance quickly and easily as well as leveraging technology where possible.

Below are the two new exciting options currently available to you:

SMS campaign

Members who have still not indicated their CPD compliance status for a specific year will receive an SMS from SAICA that simply requires you to either reply to the SMS with the letter A which means that you are compliant for the specific year or the letter B which means you are not compliant for the year in question.

Once you to the SMS with the letter only, the data will be returned to SAICA and your records will be automatically updated with your reply and CPD compliance status. If you indicated you are compliant then you will be marked as self-compliant for that year on the CPD system.

Automated Pdf form

Non-compliant members will receive a personalised Pdf form with their name, SAICA number, contact number and email address. All that is required from you is to review the form and select the most appropriate option that relates to your compliance by using the tick boxes. You will then click on the submit button which will allow you to email the completed form back to SAICA. Your records will then be automatically updated based on your selected options.

We have developed two different forms namely annual compliance for a specific year as well as a three year rolling cycle form. Please ensure you take note of the form that you are completing.

Members who are compliant will not receive the above and all such communication will only be targeted to those members who have still not indicated their compliance status.

Should you wish for any of the above to be sent to you outside of the normal schedule, please contact cpd@saica.co.za or call the contact centre on +27 11 621 6600 and we will send you the specific communication.

A reminder you can still record your CPD activities as well as indicate compliance on-line via the SAICA CPD system on www.saica.co.za

Deadline for compliance for the year 2012 was end of April 2013.
For any queries please direct them to cpd@saica.co.za or via the contact centre on +27 11 621 6600.

Non compliant members (1 January 2009 – 31 December 2011)

In terms of the SAICA CPD Policy, SAICA is required to impose sanctions against members who have not met the minimum CPD requirements both for a three year CPD cycle and/or the annual requirements. Those who have had sanctions imposed against them and wish to rectify their current non-compliance status, are required to contact the following SAICA representative to determine what the process is to have the sanction lifted and their name removed from the list.
