The Members in Business Interest Groups - enterprise Risk Management, Financial Management and Strategic Management Accounting - aim to create environments that foster peer-to-peer interaction, allowing participants to exchange in-depth, job specific tools and methods. Designed to fit the unique needs of members in these professional disciplines, each Forum offers peer-to-peer collaboration and shared projects; peer-to-peer interaction opporunties during select events; seminsars and workshops, and a quarterly e-communciation that includes real-world ideas and solutions for peers.

Participation in the Various Forums

The focus of the Forums is to create opportunities for peer interaction. To benefit from these opportunities you need to actively participate in them. Peer interaction can be realized in a number of ways including the following:

Member Directory
Reach out to colleagues and enhance your networks.

Topical Events
Most of these periodic events have a peer interaction component included to discuss learning with peers. Be sure to participate fully, and offer your expertise at these gatherings. You never know what content you might be able to use, or expertise you can call upon when needed. You will be sent regular notices of upcoming and planned events well in advance to afford you the opportunity to attend.

Armchair Discussion Series
SAICA sees these events as an opportunity to create a dynamic setting where like-minded, progressive Chartered Accountants could meet, maintain and enhance a network of peers. In addition to creating an excellent networking opportunity, the events are designed to offer you the opportunity to learn in a fun, relaxed, interactive and practical way. The presenters are experts in their fields and have been carefully selected to address issues that you as a CA(SA) might be facing in your quest for greater heights. Come prepared to meet and share with others. You just might meet your next boss or your next all-star employee across the table.

Contribute to Publications
Quarterly e-communications publications feature real contributions from real participants, so you can put your name in front of thousands of your peers with your genuine insight on issues that matter. You can also gain the collective insights of your peers by reading each of the publications that come out per year. Look for update communications throughout the year to learn more about your opportunities to participate in an upcoming publication.

Contribute to Resources or Projects
The various interest group sites will feature a number of articles, presentations and other samples contributed by members. Step up if you have a resource to share, or can contribute to the collections.

Financial Management Interest Group (Incorporating CFO Forum)

Modern CFO's and other finance professionals play an ever increasing role in determining and driving the larger strategy for their companies, weighing in on questions about risk management, growth and acquisitions, business process outsourcing, IT strategy and marketing returns. At the same time there is a plethora of regulations triggered by local and global corporate failures as well as rapidly transforming international relations. Bearing full responsibility for a company's success or failure, but being unable to control most of what will determine it. The CFO has more influence than most people in the organization, but is unable to wield it without certain consequences. Just when a CFO thinks he has reached the pinnacle of his career, he begins to realize that the modern CFO's job is different and more complicated than he imagined. Not complicated in a technical sense but in other ways. It is with this in mind that we decided to establish a forum to enable members to have a forum for a stimulating discussion around some of the challenges facing finance professionals and CFO's in business today.

Strategic Partnerships
Executives’ Global Network (EGN).
SAICA has recently partnered with EGN. EGN is a knowledge sharing organisation that was founded in Denmark in 1992 and launched in South Africa at the beginning of this year. South African Finance Executives are able to network and share knowledge in EGN’s peer group platforms which are based on job function, as well as with the over 3000 international members of which approximately 25% are senior Finance Executives. Companies are profiled on staff count, turnover and industry and then individuals are placed in a structured peer group that meets 4 - 6 times a year in a safe, secure and non-competitive environment where members set the agenda.

Topics and issues under discussion are of a more strategic, rather than technical nature and are based on issues and challenges that members are facing now and in the foreseeable future.

We think this initiative will benefit our members and compliment the value adding services that SAICA already offers.

Enterprise Risk Management Forum

The complex, dynamic and demanding environment in which modern business operates coupled with the spectacular corporate collapses and scandals that have rocked the economic world in recent times have created an environment which is proving to be a compliance and risk management minefield. It is in the same environment where the majority of our members operate and we thus deemed it necessary to establish a forum which is a user group for professionals employed in the various disciplines of risk management to get together on a regular basis to discuss among peers, provide a platform for an exchange of views, render a support network to members and promote better communication within Commerce Industry on ERM related issues between:

  • ERM Practitioners
  • Internal Auditors
  • External Auditors
  • Regulators (FSB, JSE, etc)
  • CEO's, CFO's, CRO's, etc

Strategic Management Accounting Forum

The South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) have identified a need within the local accounting fraternity in the area of strategic management accounting. This entails providing and sharing subject-specific information and best practices. In addition, it involves bridging the gap between academic thought leadership and its practical applications and practices.

Therefore, a management accounting forum has been established to provide a thought leadership forum on matters relating to Strategic Management Accounting.
