The Co-operatives Act, No 14 of 2005 was signed by the President on the 18 August 2005 and gazetted in Gazette No. 27912. This Act replaces the Co-Operatives Act, No 91 of 1981 which was repealed by Section 98(1) of the Co-Operatives Act, No 14 of 2005 and the implementation date was 2 May 2007. The objectives of the Act are to uphold the values of self-help, self-reliance, self-responsibility, democracy, equality and social responsibility.
Legislation:
The Department of Trade and Industry published the Co-operatives Amendment Bills for public comments during January 2011. Deadline for comments was 22 March 2011.
