Policy on Continuing Professional Development
In order to ensure that our members and associates are perceived to be competent by external stakeholders, which would play a significant role in maintaining the reputation of the designation as well as the profession, SAICA has developed a policy on Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
After a process of communication with and feedback and input from members and associates, the SAICA Board approved the CPD policy from 1 January 2006.

CPD Philosophy and Strategy
One of the fundamental principles of SAICA's Code of Professional Conduct relates to professional competence. Section 4 of the Code requires all members and associates to maintain their professional knowledge and skill and to adopt a programme of continuing professional development.
Each individual has the primary responsibility for his or her own competence. All professional accountants have an obligation to develop and maintain their professional competence, relevant to the nature of their work and professional responsibilities.
