Notice:
We are aware that some members may be experiencing difficulties with regards to the performance of the CPD system when accessing records. Our IT department is currently investigating the issue.

The knowledge needed to function effectively as a professional accountant in public practice, commerce, education, the public sector or any other environment continues to expand and change at a rapid rate.Therefore continuing the development of your professional competence by enhancing your knowledge and skills will ensure that you deliver the best possible service to your stakeholders and protect the CA(SA) designation.
Being a professional means having an attitude of lifelong learning. In this context, as a SAICA member you are assuredly aware of your obligation to develop and maintain your professional competence.
In terms of paragraph 6 of IES 7: "Continuing professional development relates to learning activities that develop and maintain capabilities to enable professional accountants to perform competently within their professional environments."

Examples of verifiable CPD include:
- Workshops
- Courses
- Conferences
- Technical meetings
- Developing new systems or processes
- Presenting information to others
- On-the-job training
- Mentoring or being mentored
- Industry published articles
- Committee work including preparation of board meetings, audit committees or other financial services or trade organisations
- In-house presentations on products, preparing papers and contributing to technical meetings
- Action-based learning (research problems)
- Further qualifications, e.g. CFA, web-based learning/training
- CPD clubs or discussion groups
- Watching television programmes on Summit TV.
- Watching technical DVDs in a group or discussion session

Examples of verifiable sources include:
- Course/ training certificates
- Attendance registers at meetings/ workshops
- A note in a diary
- Third party attendance verification
- Minutes of a meeting
- Research papers
- Strategy documents or presentations, and
- Course material
Examples of non-verifiable CPD:
- Reading business sections of newspapers, professional journals eg. Accountancy SA, Financial Mail, Finweek,The Economist , etc. and web pages
- Watching technical DVDs alone, and
- Self study that does not lead to any formal assessment or research paper

Overall CPD requirement
- 120 hours in a 3 year rolling cycle i.e. 60 verifiable and 60 non-verifiable
- A minimum of 20 hours must be recorded each year (these may be verifiable or non-verifiable)
- Members over the age of 60 will receive exemption from CPD by SAICA. If a member receives exemption but is still professionally active, the onus is on the member to inform SAICA
- Members who register with SAICA during a cycle are required to comply with CPD in the year following their registration
- Members may record their CPD on the SAICA CPD recording system or declare self compliant on the CPD system and maintain the recordon their own
