Qualifying Examinations - 2011 and 2012

Note that NO writing / notes etc will be allowed in the SAICA handbooks which may be brought into the examination from 2010.

  Part I QE January 2012  
Exam to be written on: Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 January 2012

Format of Examinations:

Open book assessment
Entrance (eligibility) requirements: Valid CTA or equivalent. To be eligible to write Part I, a candidate must have successfully completed a CTA or equivalent programme accredited by the IPD Committee. However, such CTA or equivalent programme will only be valid for a period of five years (starting the year after the CTA was completed) and it is an accredited programme. For the avoidance of doubt, any year in which a candidate does not write the Part I examination is still included within that five year period.
Exam times:

Session 1:
8:00 - 8:30 Reading time (30 minutes)
Candidates must be seated by no later than 7:15.  This is very important at the larger centres such as Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg and Pretoria
8:30 - 11:00 Writing time (2 1/2 hours)
Break for lunch at 11:00 and, move back into the venue at
11:45 to be seated by 12:00 at the larger venues such as Cape Town,
Durban, Johannesburg and Pretoria and 12:30 at all other venues or as announced by the chief invigilator.

Candidates are advised to bring their own refreshments for lunch.

Session 2:
13:00 - 13:30 Reading time (30 minutes)
13:30 - 16:00 Writing time (2 1/2 hours )

Seating arrangements at the venue on both days of the exam:
Candidates will sit in numerical order.  An attendance register, on which your exam number will be pre-printed, will be placed on your desk.  Look for the desk that matches your exam number and please ensure that you sit at the correct desk.
Note that venues with 30 and less candidates are not required to follow the process above as smaller numbers are manageable.

Candidates waiting for a supplementary exam result please NOTE:

Candidates waiting for a supplementary exam result MUST register for the exam by Friday, 2 December 2011. Fees will only become payable once the supplementary results have been confirmed.
Early registration fee for all candidates:

R3,324.24 (inclusive of 14% VAT) – Fee payable between 5 September 2011 and 2 December 2011

Late registration fees, for all candidates, payable if the online registration form is completed after 2 December 2011: Fee payable from 3 to 16 December 2011 - R4,986.36 (inclusive of 14% VAT)
Fee payable from 17 to 31 December 2011 - R6,648.48 (inclusive of 14% VAT)
Fee payable from 1 to 6 January 2012 - R8,310.60 (inclusive of 14% VAT)
Examination entrance letters: An examination letter (i.e. confirmation of your eligibility to write the exam) will only be emailed to you once SAICA has received your payment.
London Exam venue:

An examination venue will be established in London, however, SAICA reserves the right to cancel this venue if the number of candidates who registered to write at this venue is not feasible. An additional registration fee will be levied which will be shared by all the candidates who choose to write in London.

Candidates who want to register to write the Part I QE at the London venue should do so by 14 November 2011, so that SAICA can establish the feasibility of the London venue.

Candidates electing to write at the London venue will be notified on 2 December 2011 of the additional registration fee that is payable.

Exam results will be released on: Friday, 30 March 2012 at 16h00

  Part II Financial Management Exam - November 2011  
Exam to be written on: Monday, 7 November 2011
Exam times: Online registrations commence - Tuesday 2 August 2011
Session 1:
8.30 - 8.50 Reading time (20 minutes)
8.50 - 11.20 Writing time (2 1/2 hours)
Break for lunch
11.20 - 12.30 (1 hour 10 minutes)
Candidates are advised to bring their own refreshments for lunch.
Session 2:
12.30 - 12.50 Reading time (20 minutes)
12.50 - 15.20 Writing time (2 1/2 hours)

Registration fee:
In terms of SAICA's examination policy, invoices are issued to each candidate. Should you require the invoice to be made out to your employer, you need to request same before Wednesday, 31 August 2011 in order for payment to reach SAICA by Friday 30 September 2011.

Entrance fee

R1,760.00 is payable by 04 November 2011 in respect of registration from 05 August 2011 to 30 September 2011.

An additional fee of R660.00 is payable by 04 November 2011 in respect of late registration after 30 September 2011 and before 28 October 2011.

An administration fee of 15% of the above fee(s) is payable for cancellation or withdrawal of registration. This fee is payable by 05 December 2011. Candidates who do not meet the examination requirements will not be charged an administration fee.

We are aware that the majority of the candidates will still be awaiting their Auditing Specialism (APT) results at the time of registration and as such candidates will be registered provisionally and their registration will only be confirmed once we have received the official results from the audit specialism programme provider.

The IRBA is no longer a VAT vendor and as such no VAT will be charged.

London Examination Venue

An examination venue will be established in London; however, the IRBA reserves the right to cancel this venue if the number of candidates who register to write at this venue is not feasible.

Candidates who want to register to write the 2011 PPE at the London venue should do so by 30 September 2011, so that the IRBA can establish the feasibility of the London venue.

All London PPE candidates will be notified on 15 October 2011 of the additional registration fee that is payable.

Alternative Examination Arrangements

The IRBA may make alternative examination arrangements available to candidates that require these arrangements for medical, personal or other reasons.

The policies and procedures governing all applications for special concessions will be published on the IRBA website, www.irba.co.za.

Granting of special concessions is entirely at the discretion of the IRBA.
