SAICA's Southern Region has been established in terms of the Institute's Constitution, by members of the Institute resident in the Western Cape, Southern Cape and Eastern Cape. More than 5,500 members and associates fall under the jurisdiction of the Southern Region Council, which presides over matters in terms of its Constitution and By-Laws. Member-focused activities and opportunities to interact and share ideas form part of the activities of the Region.
The Regional Office in Cape Town is ideally located to support Council and its committees. In addition it is well geared to arrange networking functions and to respond to queries.
The broader areas are served via District Associations in Border-Kei (East London), Port Elizabeth and the Southern Cape.
SAICA's Southern Region exists to provide a service to all SAICA members and associates in the Western, Southern and Eastern Cape. In addition, it represents SAICA's national operations at a regional level. The Southern Region currently provides services to approximately five and a half thousand CAs(SA).
Services offered by the Southern Region office include the organising of networking events for members and associates. To date in 2008, 1 700 members have attended our events, including our annual dinner.
Our events provide members, associates and guests with networking opportunities and many include a CPD element. Over and above these events we are also responsible for delivering seminars and workshops on various topics, ranging from accounting, tax and management accounting through to exciting new seminars on business-related issues.
The Southern Region office plays an active role in representing its diverse membership base at various levels with key stakeholders. This is done via the devoted members who serve on the active committee structures (Members in Business, Small and Medium Practice, Tax, Public Sector, Transformation and Trainee Accountants Society) that represent the various constituencies within the membership base. These committee structures ensure that we can actively communicate with the members and in doing so represent them at various levels of industry.
One of the other key focus areas of SAICA's Southern Region office is the maintenance and enhancement of the CA(SA) designation through media coverage and promotion of the designation in business and public practice. The office also has a Member & Trainee query unit that deals with all member and trainee-related questions, as well as a Transformation & Growth unit which is responsible for the implementation of all SAICA's Southern Region Transformation & Growth initiatives.
