Background Of the amost 26,000 SAICA registered members, more than 5,800 are located abroad. These members primarily base themselves in the United Kingdom as a country of choice (approximately 2,864). The move to the UK can be for a variety of reasons including amongst others, to expand on skills sets, international secondment opportunities and immigration into the United Kingdom.
The committee and objectives The SAICA UK Committee was formed in October 2004 at an Annual SAICA event in London hosted by the SAICA Executive President, Ignatius Sehoole. This new committee replaced the outgoing one whose purpose was primarily to hold informal networking functions on a bi-annual basis.
SAICA's strategy of addressing the key needs of its members was the key driver in reinforcing representation for members in the UK. The primary purpose of the committee is to formally represent the UK membership base and communicate the needs of the members to SAICA in South Africa.
Equivalent institutes from around the world have been operating in the UK for extended periods of time offering services which incorporate CPD. It was with this in mind that the newly formed committee set about articulating it's key areas of focus, these include:
Communication of the needs of absentee members (members overseas) to SAICA,
Promoting and educating the UK market about the CA(SA) brand,
Promoting the SAICA charity Thuthuka,
Facilitating access to continuing professional development,
Arranging formal and informal networking functions,
Keeping members informed on global and regional developments of matters directly related to their profession.
