The SAICA Australia Members Association is a non-profit making organisation, affiliated to the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).
Background
Of the 28,200 SAICA registered members, more than 6,200 are located abroad. These members primarily base themselves in the United Kingdom and in Australia. Members relocate for a variety of reasons including amongst others, to expand on skill sets, international secondment opportunities and immigration.
The Objectives
SAICA's strategy of addressing the needs of its members was the key driver in reinforcing representation for members in Australia. The primary purpose of the committee is to formally represent the Australian membership base and communicate the needs of the members to SAICA in South Africa.
Equivalent institutes from around the world have been operating in Australia for extended periods of time offering services to members. It was with this in mind that the newly formed committee set about articulating its key areas of focus which includes:
- Communication of the needs of absentee members (members overseas) to SAICA;
- Promoting and educating the Australian market about the CA(SA) brand;
- Promoting the SAICA charity Thuthuka;
- Facilitating access to continuing professional development (CPD);
- Arranging formal and informal networking functions; and
- Keeping members informed on global and regional developments of matters directly related to their profession.
